What is an Echocardiogram (Echo)?

Diagnostic Ultrasound is the use of high frequency sound waves to image internal structures. There is NO radiation involved. You will be asked to remove your shirt. A gown will be provided for your privacy. You will be asked to lie on your left side on the bed. Ultrasonic gel is applied to the chest area and an instrument will be used to obtain pictures. You will hear Doppler sounds during the procedure as the blood flow is interrogated. At the end of the test you will be asked to lie on your back for the final pictures.
