Holter Monitor
What is a Holter Monitor?
A holter monitor is used to record your heart rate, rhythm and electrical impulses. Often times a holter monitor is ordered when you feel an irregular rhythm or flutter like feeling in your chest but there can be a multitude of other reasons for ordering a holter monitor.
If a monitor has been ordered for you, you will receive the monitor before leaving the office. You will be asked to wear the monitor for 48 hours to collect as much information as possible. We want for you to resume all of your regular activities that you would otherwise normally do. The only restriction with the monitor we use in our office is that it cannot be submerged in water. So you will need to hold off on taking baths (showers are perfectly fine) and going swimming, etc. The monitor is attached to your skin with an adhesive patch and is about the size of a half dollar.
After you have worn your monitor for 48 hours you can easily peel the monitor off yourself and return the monitor to the office. We cannot retrieve any information from the monitor until it has been returned to the office. We will have the results from your monitor typically within 7-10 business days.
